The globe is not the important difference
Worldly’s official description explains that you search for a place, choose its geographical level, and optionally add a date or notes. It says the app does not ask for location access. Visits stay on the phone; photos and some styles are Pro features.
That approach makes sense for the summer you spent abroad before installing an app. A manual entry can preserve a meaningful visit without claiming to know which pavements you used.
What a walk adds
Nowhop’s Passport is built around accepted movement records: a country, a city, and the paths saved there. The city detail can distinguish a selected day’s walk from newly revealed ground. The main map remains a view of your surroundings, with visual map styles chosen separately.
Imagine walking the same river path on Monday and Tuesday. Both days can contain a walk, but Tuesday does not make the already explored ground new again. That distinction matters if you want to see where a different turn took you, rather than maintain a list of cities.
The decision in two questions
| Your priority | A useful starting point |
|---|---|
| Remember past cities without recording GPS | Worldly’s manual visit model |
| Connect today’s plans with saved walks | Explore Nowhop’s development preview |
Do not compare two “percent explored” numbers as if they have the same denominator. Country counts, places marked visited, and area covered by recorded paths answer different questions. Ask what counts as a visit and what geographic boundary a percentage uses.
Local storage still deserves a closer look
Local records are only one part of privacy. Search requests, analytics, backups and sharing should be considered separately. Worldly’s linked FAQ explains its data handling; Nowhop’s preview explains Apple and public-map requests alongside local personal storage. Neither product should be judged from a single lock icon.
Nowhop is not yet available to download from this site. Its demo uses samples, so it lets you inspect the flow without pretending to record a real trip.
