Before the day: your intended route
A day route helps you understand the order of your places. In Nowhop’s development build, you request the selected day’s route explicitly. It uses the planned locations and relevant Apple directions where available. It is useful for spotting a stop on the other side of town before you leave.
This route is still a proposal. It does not know whether you entered the venue, took a shortcut, or decided to spend the afternoon somewhere else. Missing locations or directions must stay visible as missing information.
After the walk: what was recorded
Passport’s daily path comes from accepted location samples. Position quality and gaps matter. If a phone stops supplying usable updates, connecting the two ends with a confident line would invent a journey. A gap is more honest than a beautifully complete route that never happened.
The same applies when an app is force-quit or location permission is removed. Background recording is constrained by iOS and device conditions. No planner can turn an unobserved interval into a verified walking record.
Distance and revealed area answer different questions
Distance describes how far the recorded walk went. Revealed area describes the ground covered by the exploration corridor, with overlapping areas counted once. A second lap can add walking distance without adding much newly explored area.
Nowhop’s city percentage uses validated city boundary geometry and the explored area clipped inside it. If a valid boundary is unavailable, there is no meaningful percentage to invent. The number is not the share of streets walked, businesses visited or the population reached.
Changing the map’s visual style or Fog strength must not change those underlying records. Appearance is a way to see the map, not a way to earn exploration.
Know which question each screen answers
| View | Question |
|---|---|
| Plan day route | Where am I intending to go? |
| Map | Where am I, and what has been explored? |
| Passport day detail | What path was recorded on this date, and what was new? |
The development preview uses sample records to demonstrate these distinctions. Its illustrative reveal control never writes a real visit or a personal walking history.
